I am a guest researcher with the Multimodal Language and Cognition Group, investigating dance as a form of embodied analogy. I am also a dancer, teacher and participatory dance practitioner. I was a founder member of both CandoCo and Crossover Intergenerational Dance Companies in the UK and have taught dance theory & practice for over twenty years.
My research integrates approaches from dance practice, multimodal linguistics and cognitive psychology. My current projects focus on the analogical and metaphorical relationships between dance-like bodily movement and ‘meaning’ from the perspectives of both production and comprehension. The driving force behind my research is to understand more about the role of embodiment in conceptualisation and cognition.
